The DIY Community asked for a well priced coaxial speaker that not only excelled at surround sound, but would also work better for their front speakers. I spoke with Eminence and asked if they could make us a custom model similar to their Beta-10cx but with a couple changes including a stiff light weight darker cone. After some prototype samples were tested we had our new coaxial for the Volt-10 LX Edition. The crossover was then designed to give a smoother response that would lend itself to better performance in front speakers. Of course they still make exceptional surround sound speakers in the angled enclosures on this page.
The Denovo DNA-150 compression driver (tweeter) is installed on the back and fires through a small waveguide in the center of the woofer giving you point source sound and great off axis response. The LX Edition does quite well in small sealed enclosures between .67cuft and 1cuft when used with a subwoofer. Due to their great dynamic range and smoother response they can also be used in a larger ported enclosure between 1-2cuft alone or paired with a subwoofer. More information will be coming on the ported design.
