The Alchemy was designed as a small speaker that many people with subwoofers would choose to use as front main speakers or surrounds. I selected the Eminence Beta-8 woofer due to its high sensitivity and very linear response and was surprised at the exceptional midrange quality of this driver. The tweeter is the Denovo DNA-205 compression driver mounted to the EOS-8. An unusual attribute of this speaker is their summed acoustic response is minimum phase through the crossover. This means there is no excess delay or phase rotation in this speaker’s acoustic output, which is a rare characteristic found in very few loudspeakers.
System sensitivity of the Alchemy is 94dB/2.83V/Meter. The system is nominally an 8 ohm load, but impedance is typically higher than 8 ohms over most of the range, making this a very easy speaker to power. Most home theater receivers will easily be able to drive multiples of this speaker. The system is vented and tuned to 60Hz, providing bass extension to 65Hz (-3dB). The Alchemy will mate well with many high output subwoofers when crossed over in the 80Hz range, providing very high quality, and high output sound in a small package.
The Fusion-8 was designed to perform best when paired with a subwoofer that can handle the lower frequencies.
