Details

This cabinet is fully assembled, sanded, and ready for paint.  Net volume after bracing, ports, and woofer is just a bit over 8cuft.  This cabinet has been fully tested with three 4" Precision Ports that tune it at 16hz when installed at the proper length.  It was designed specifically for very heavy, high X-max, high powered 18" subwoofers like the Stereo Integrity 18" subwoofers, but almost any 18" subwoofers should fit.  This is the same highly braced cabinet used in the SI-18" subwoofer kit.

It's built with an incredible bracing system for one of the strongest enclosure you can buy. This cabinet was intentionally overbuilt and over braced to house the largest and most powerful 18" woofers. It has a double layer of Baltic birch plywood on front with an optional 3rd layer of highly refined MDF. Check the exploded view photo to see how overbuilt it is. Notice that all braces are recessed into every panel they're attached to. The inner baffle is also fully recessed within the top, bottom, and side panels to give you an incredibly strong enclosure.  If you had to build the ultimate subwoofer cabinet, this would be it!

Price breakdown is in the 'What's Included' tab shown above.

Product Highlights:

  • Cut with a CNC router for accuracy.
  • Assembled by a professional cabinet maker.
  • Fully recessed inner baffle for incredible strength and holding power.
  • Interlock bracing adds to panel stiffness and cuts down on vibrations.
  • Made from CARB 2 compliant 3/4" Baltic birch plywood.
  • Two front layers made from 3/4" Baltic birch.
  • Optional 3rd layer of mdf if you want a smooth roundovers that can be easier to paint.
  • Rabbet joints for every brace, top/bottom, and side panels to increase joint holding power.

Shipping Note: This cabinet must be shipped on a pallet due to it's size and weight. Because I add in extra money to cover "free shipping" on most of the speaker kits, any of those that you order at the same time can be shipped on the pallet with this cabinet.  So that extra money added in to cover the free shipping on those can be applied to the entire pallet.  Many times it will knock the shipping cost down over $100.   I will have some average shipping rates for different parts of the country posted soon.

Product Note: Screw holes have not been drilled for mounting your ports or woofer because everyone likes to use different screws or T-nuts.  There are no holes cut for terminals because some people use binding posts and some people use SpeakOn terminals.  The cabinet maker might be able to do this for an extra fee if needed.

If you have the space… this is the BEST QUALITY of construction and designed subwoofer cabinet you’re going to find built in the USA, period. This cabinet was designed on a computer using a Cad program, all the materials was milled by a CNC machinist, and then it's assembled by professional cabinet builder. This cabinet comes fully assembled. It is SOLID and ready to go! You can customize it to make it your own. I elected to get the front MDF plate added on because I wanted to recess the subwoofer. The rest of the cabinet is constructed out of Baltic Birch, which is very nice tightly layered plywood. This cabinet is made using all 3/4"material.

All the wood parts fit very tight and are cut to precision dimensions. I'm a woodworking hobbyist, but I could not ever cut the wood this perfect in my own garage. I thought the Baltic Birch grain was so beautiful (that I wanted to see it) so I stained it using a Zar wood finishing product. I used a color called Black Onyx. However, I painted the front baffle using a solid black paint by Rosco it’s a Super Saturated - Velour Black 6003. I think it looks really awesome finished this way.

When you receive it by pallet you'll first be surprised how HUGE it is, but it's worth it if you have the space!! There are obviously a few things you’re going to need to do when you receive it: (1) Finish the outside (2) You may want to add some acoustic foam (using spray glue) or other dampening material inside (3) You'll need to add 3 precision port tubes. (4) Add the speaker wire terminals. (5) You may want to add some rubber isolator feet to help the vibration to avoid shaking your home down! (6) Then finally install your 18" sub!

By the time you’re done, this completely assembled subwoofer will probably weight 250+lbs, so plan to recruit some muscle to move it into place. Once it's connected your gonna be blown away with the LOW bass this unit pushes out. You can feel it!!! I choose to power mine sub using a SpeakerPower Amplifier, SP1-2400 watt HT, 4 Ohms, Mono unit (custom built). To say the least, I am very happy with the performance of my first DYI sub build. It takes our movie watching experience to a whole new level (and a low level it is). Thank you Erich for providing us the availability of buying a cabinet this well-built. If I had to do it all over again, I’d do it the exact same way.

Assembly Notes:

Because this is a ported enclosure it's a good idea to lightly stuff the cabinet with polyfill or line the walls with poly batting or denim insulation before installing your subwoofer. I recommend using Duratex paint to finish the cabinet, or a couple coats of primer and a good latex paint.  Gloss black piano finishes are very difficult and require multiple coats of primer, paint, clear coat, etc.
