  1. Great looks, construction, price, and, oh yeah, they sound good too! review by Mark C on 3/14/2023

I already have the Anarchy 708 in another design from last year and liked them, so why not give their little brother a shot? I designed some 0.35 cu ft 2 ways around the dayton E150HE-44 and ND28F-6 with an SB15SFCR-00 passive radiator, but the pr just couldn't keep up with the woofer at higher volumes ( even though I rarely listen so loud, I still feel a need to crank some Metallica or Karnivool now and then ). These Anarchy 558 were a drop in for diameter and mounting holes from the E150HE-44, so that made it easy to swap them out. They match well with the pr tuned to an Fb of 47Hz. Nice solid kick drum when Nothing Else Matters is cranked. On the other end of my musical spectrum, Temptation by Diana Krall sounds great too. From her vocals down to the upright bass. These make a great bedroom speaker but will also handle man cave duty when no one else is home to tell me to turn it down! I may increase the tweeter level since the 558's are a little more efficient, but it sounds good as is even though it's a little warmer than I originally intended. My xover is about 2.2KHz. Midrange is more present than with the dayton woofer. Distortion at 1W is low for the 558's as well. Didn't do high power measurements yet, sorry. These may not have quite the depth of the 708, but they don't miss by much. Glad I bought them!

  2. Performance runs in the family review by Pete S on 12/31/2019

Erich sent me a pair of the Anarchy 558 as parts in a possible monitor project that didn't quite pan out, not because of the woofer, but because the original tweeter had some quality control issues. However these woofers are as remarkable in every way as their larger sibling. While they don't pack as big a punch for obvious reasons, they do cover basically the same low frequency range as big brother. What they give up in total low frequency output capacity they make up for in smooth response to well over 2KHz making them very versatile for two way monitors that can reach into the upper 30Hz range with output levels unmatched by any drivers in its size. So if you're looking for a high output bookshelf that can deliver upper 30s in a .5 cubic foot enclosure, deliver room filling sound using 50W - 200W amplifiers, you won't be disappointed with the 558.
