  1. Perfect Surround Speakers review by rcohen on 1/3/2021

I got these as surround speakers and they do everything right. They can play loud and clean, without harshness. Consistent off-axis response. The spectacular imaging really caught me off guard. These were my first DIY speaker. The kits are very well thought out, and Erich is very helpful. A huge upgrade from my prior surrounds with dome tweeters.

These speakers sound incredible. These speakers definitely need to be paired with a sub(s) but once properly set up they are very detailed, have an expansive soundstage covers my whole seating area, and--of course--plenty of headroom even from my entry-level AVR. I can't imagine how the "better" DIYSG speakers sound, but given how well these perform I see no reason to upgrade (famous last words right?).

  3. Astounding! review by Brandon on 1/31/2020

I bought these to replace a pair of Pioneer SP-BS22-LR bookshelves that were on surround duty in a big 7000 ft^3 room. I knew there would be no comparison and there wasnt. These blew the Pioneers away in terms of clarity and volume and their off axis response. I powered them with a dedicated 80w D class amp.

But what blew me away was how good they were as mains. I have Bowers and Wilkins 683 S2 as mains powered by a 120w Denon that only powered the mains. Without a sub the HT8s can't compete because it's not their playground but when paired with a sub at the same 80hz crossover the HT8s were trading punches with towers. That's crazy for the price of these bookshelves. The B&W towers sounded a bit better to me in the mid range in my MLP but what blew me away was that the HTs were better in every other seat. My partner isn't really isn't into "getting the best sound" but I kid you not in an A/B test she preferred the HTs over the towers. I don't know a better review than that. These are amazing.

We are using these in a 2.1 setup for our living room (22'x28'). They output clean, clear, and loud enough for most sane people in this amount of space. Thanks for offering up this kit.

I've been using them for about 3 Months now as LCR's and was waiting to give my review. I heard about the quality and price for performance of these things and they lived up to every measure. These were the first home theater speakers I've built, or owned. I was nervous at first because I didn't know what to expect and I have not had a lot of experience with other home theater speakers, although I have dived into car audio in the past. Over time I've listened to more and more set ups I realize how remarkable these are. Powered by just my AVR the clarity and quality is unmatched by any others that I've heard since being able to compare. They get loud while staying clear making movies games and music sound phenomenal. The building process was a blast and I believe I've been bit by the bug because I can't wait to build more. If you're new to speaker building and are unsure of what to get, I assure you these are an excellent choice and you will not be disappointed.

  6. Punching far above their weight - best value, hands down review by Mark on 9/21/2019

Can't agree with the other reviews enough. These are an incredible price/performance - really something special. I also went back and forth for a long time on whether I should go with the larger 10 or 12", or the HTM series, etc. As soon as I got them built and set up I had no more concerns. They fill the room effortlessly with loads of detail and dynamics. Dialogue never sounded so clear.

Going from KEF Q series speakers to these was a clear upgrade me and my room. The waveguide does an excellent job at even dispersion across the seating area all while minimizing the room interactions from side wall and ceiling. I also use them quite a bit for music and they have all the detail I had with KEFs but a lot more dynamics. Less low end than most retail speakers, but since I crossover to subs the extension isn't needed. I recommend aggressive toe in such that the right speaker is aimed at the far left listening position and the left speaker is aimed at the far right position.

If you are on the fence trying to upsell yourself...forget all that. Buy a set of these and enjoy. Even if somehow you don't love them, drop them back to surround duty - easy! These are the perfect speakers to see if you like the SEOS waveguide flavor.

The performance of these at this price point has me 100% sold on the diysg route for main speakers. Both Matt and Erich were very helpful answering any questions regarding the design / build (thanks!).

  7. Amazing Speakers review by BL on 5/12/2019

Upon first hearing these I must say I was shocked on how loud yet clear these speakers got. Played them in a 18’x21’ living room with a cathedral style ceiling and two 7 1/2’x5’ openings, one into a dining area the other into a stairwell. Wow just wow. The way that these speakers flooded the room with sound was amazing, and they did so effortlessly. Can’t recommend these speakers enough.

P.S. The flat packs and pre assembled crossovers make these things a dream to build.

  8. Thought I made a mistake review by Badger on 4/26/2019

While building these, I thought I made the mistake of not buying the more expensive Htm or bigger models. Waiting for the glue to dry was excruciating. I kept thinking, "Should I have . . .", fill in the blank with a hundred different scenarios. I finally hooked them up and zero regrets. These sound huge. Smooth, detailed, and loud. Gentlemen, thank you for designing these. Also, the x-over boards and flat packs make these super simple to build.

  9. May be all the speaker you ever need review by Brian6751 on 4/14/2019

If you are just getting into home theater and have somehow been directed to this product page, listen to me VERY CLOSELY. Buy these kits for all your channels, maybe some volt-6's for atmos, NEVER go back onto the forums, and live happily ever after! There, I just saved you thousands of dollars! You're welcome! But seriously, these are all the speaker 99.99% of us will ever need. They are a cost/performance marvel and they sound great regardless of the price. I have built, heard and owned A LOT of speakers both retail and from DIYSG and these would not be embarrassed by any of them. I'm betting Erich recommended these but you're looking at more expensive models because, "why not", right? Listen to Erich and just buy these and enjoy life!! You'll thank me later!
