I built 4 HT-8s for ATMOS use in my theater and I’m incredibly impressed with them.
First the kits are extremely well packaged and very professional. They go together perfectly and really I can’t think of any way to do any of it better.
I ordered the crossover boards and they were also excellent t quality.
The sound out of these is very impressive for their small size and the value is amazing IMO. They’re clear, loud, and image well. Couldn’t ask for more.

  2. Replacement Surrounds for Klipsch RP-150Ms review by Xb1032 on 7/5/2023

After replacing my Klipsch RP-280Fs and RP-450C LCR with DIYSG-1099s, I decided to upgrade my RP-150M surrounds with HT-8s. I planned on getting HT6s, but since they weren't available and the HT8s were only 1/2" deeper I went with 8s. Anyone using Klipsch speakers like the RP series, have no fear. The 1099s and HT8s are every bit as detailed and crisp on the highs as Klipsch without being harsh on the ears. These sound better the louder you play them whereas my Klipsch RPs would get harsh at louder levels. I have not done an A/B comparison with my 1099s, but my gut feeling is the HT8s could serve well as an LCR.

The HT8s come as a flat pack making them easy to assemble. Unlike some, I dislike soldering. However, there's not many components to the HT8s and the optional circuit boards simplifies the crossover build. Many on Avsforum rave about the DIYSG speakers and I avoided making the switch until this year. Looking back, I should have made the jump years ago before prices on electronics went up. Mine are setup in a basement home theater with a dark decor, so I rolled on Exohyde for a durable finish that works well in my theater.

If you are on the fence, I recommend making the jump now. These are an incredible value. The HT8s get an A+ in my book. Great sound, big sound for the size and are very clear and crisp.

  3. Easy to build, priced right, sounds awesome review by QDC on 5/18/2023

Used the HT-8 as surrounds in my theater and they are awesome. Cabinet is shallow, sound is clear and has punch and is easy to integrate into the room. Pair with HTM-12 as my LCR and Volt 8 as Atmos. If you want compression drivers, you can't go wrong with these.

  4. Ever heard the saying dynamite comes in small boxes.... review by Orange DIYer on 3/22/2023

These speakers are simply amazing. For me they serve as surround duty with three HTM-12s as my LCR. They came packaged superbly, as always. They are just a perfect pairing. Sure I could have gone larger or more expensive, but these are just incredible value for money, and by that I don't mean cheap. They are well designed and just work. I plan on hiding them in the walls by building columns around them. I chose them for the relative small size making my pillar build less painful and less large physically.

If you get these in stock, buy them, you will not regret it.

  5. Amazing speakers review by Taylor on 10/1/2022

Have had these as surrounds and backs with HTM-12s for fronts and these could have easily been my LCR. These speakers blend perfectly and are everything you could want from a speaker this size. With the wide horn they easily cover every seat and there isn't a bad seat in the theater. These are only being driven by the receiver and get louder than I can handle. If I had the ceiling space I would also purchase them for Atmos as in a perfect setup would want the same speakers all the way around.

Assembly was quick and easy and everything came together beautifully.

I have never had a single issue with them and never had any desire to replace or upgrade. I have had thoughts to buy an extra pair so I can have them on hand when I upgrade receiver to include wides as I wouldn't want to have to substitute in some other lower quality speaker.

  6. Endgame for my bed layer already? review by EJ on 8/14/2022

If you see these speakers/ kits in stock...stop reading and BUY RIGHT AWAY. Otherwise, read on!

To get to the point, I love these speakers. I never had a real appreciation for good clarity or dynamics until I ordered, assembled, and setup five of these HT-8s to serve as my bed layer speakers. Many people talk about hearing things they haven't heard before when getting new speakers...maybe I am hearing new things too? What I can say is that I feel more immersed than ever due to the audio quality these speakers provide.

I have a relatively small, 13' x 13' x 7.75' home theater and the HT-8s are basically overkill. I remember going back and forth with Erich on HT-8s and HT-12s and very glad I listened to his advice. The HT-8s could easily cover a room larger than mine. That said - and you should know - I find myself turning these speakers up slightly loader than my old speakers and somehow having no listening fatigue (especially compared to before). From what I understand, speaker distortion helps us detect loudness, these speakers are so clear that you'll play them louder.

I bought the flat pack kits. I had never done any sort of wood working, soldering, or cabinet finishing. I ran into ZERO issues during assembly...was able to learn everything as I went. Erich is VERY responsive and always willing to to help. This gave me the confidence to finish this project quickly and successfully. Really appreciate what Erich and team have going on here at DIYSG. Have already bought and built sub enclosures since building the HT-8s...moving on to atmos next!

If you made it this far, might as well refresh the site to see if these speakers are in stock! Happy hunting!

  7. Great speakers! review by JLab on 7/8/2022

I had some "analysis paralysis" before buying these speakers, like many others. I didn't know if they'd be good enough or loud enough compared to HT-10s or 12s, 1099s, HTM series, the list goes on.

When these came in stock after patiently waiting for ANY kit to be available I finally just ordered. I couldn't be happier! I sit about 20 feet from my TV and use these in a L/R 2.2 setup for my living room. These 2 speakers get insanely loud and clear on AVR power (old Denon X4000) and I enjoy them as all purpose speakers for movies, TV, and music.

I do not feel the need to upgrade to another speaker and I don't feel like my setup is lacking in any way. Great speakers!

As for assembly, these were the first crossovers I ever assembled and was pretty nervous at first. I am a decent wood workers so the kits weren't a problem, but not very good with soldering. The instructions and video helped out a lot and I got them assembled pretty quickly. It really is pretty easy!

  8. Excellent surround speakers, would be great LCR as well. review by TJ on 9/1/2021

Bought some HT-8 kits for surrounds to pair with my 1099 LCR. The HT-8s blew me away. Excellent clarity and dynamic range. I could have easily used these as my LCR and still been happy. It is amazing how good these speakers sound given their cost and size. Highly recommended.

  9. WOW! - Unbelievable Performance and Value review by Rodney on 3/7/2021

This was my first attempt at a dedicated home theater. After much research, I decided that DIYSoundgroup would be my best option for speakers. Covid-19 greatly affected component availability, but my perseverance/flexibility eventually paid off. My 5.1.2 theater consists of HT-8's for LCR (mounted in-wall behind an AT screen), ported Volt-8's for surrounds and in-ceiling sealed Volt-10's for Atmos. Subwoofer duties are being covered by a Eminence Lab15 mounted in a Kuda cabinet.

I originally wanted HT-10's for LCR and Volt-10's for surrounds and Atmos. I thought I NEEDED them to be satisfied! Boy was I wrong! We Demo'd a few movie clips in the new theater upon completion. They consisted of Star Trek, Black Panther, Avengers Endgame, Hunger Games and Legend of Tarzan. UNBELIEVABLE!! My face hurt from grinning so much.
My wife considered this buildout to be a waste of time. "Why don't we just go to ________ and buy speakers, like normal people?" she would say repeatedly throughout this process. After the first few Demos, her response was, "I now understand why you insisted that we buy these DIY speakers. This is AMAZING!" We've got a video collection that consists of 700+ DVD/BluRays. Which movies will we re-watch now that we realize that we've missed so much of these movies in the past? The detail is amazing and the dynamics are downright scary! It's all better than I could have imagined.

Eric was great to work with and I'll definitely be buying from DIYSoundgroup in the future.

  10. Amazing clarity and power handling review by Joel on 2/4/2021

I built 4 of these to use as surrounds in my 7.1 channel living room home theater. The build was pretty straightforward and fun with the flat packs and crossover kits. I bought them over the Volt-6's on recommendation from Erich. The Volts would've been easier to mount to angle downward. I used a diy french cleat system that points them down about 20 degrees with the tweeters on the bottom. Used denim insulation and painted with Duratex. I'm driving them with an Onkyo TX-SR805 and I can turn them up to painful levels with no distortion (unlike my Paradigm front speakers).

I was worried that the compression drivers would sound like the awful harsh Klipsch horns I'd heard in the past, and I love(d) my Paradigm soft dome tweeters. First time I listened to these all my worries disappeared. These sound so natural that I notice details of sound effects in movies and video games that I hadn't noticed before with my old Polk satellite speakers. So realistic. Amazing. They're a bit mid-rangy for music and I have to turn them down about 3 db or they overpower my fronts. I can't wait to replace my LCR with diysg speakers!
