Outstanding quality enclosure, really cleans up well with proper sanding and some oil/ wax treatment. Woofers reach some impressive, clean lows that almost seem as a sub is on. Highs are nice and clear and balanced. Coming from a pair of KRK 5's, these offer a lot more presence and better imaging / staging. Honestly amazed at what these 4" drivers can do.
Super fast shipping and fantastic packaging, wish they were back in stock because I would order another pair!

  2. Amazing performance from a small, inexpensive speaker review by blafrisch on 10/7/2019

I modified the build slightly and changed out the two rear-firing slot ports for 1x down-firing slot port of the same length and volume so that these could be wall-mounted. Overall I'm very impressed with the speakers. They replaced Infinity Alpha 40s in my living room which are towers with dual 6.5" woofers and overall much larger; the Overnight Sensations needed the subwoofer less than the Alpha 40s did and the OSs also blend with the sub better. This is my second set of speakers for DIY Sound Group and the packing and kit was again phenomenal: nothing damaged and easy to assemble.

I bought 2 of these to get me into the DIY world of speaker building at the advice of a friend. He has never built these or heard them but has read numerous reviews on them. I received them quickly and the packaging was excellent. I have read several reviews that mention how well things are packaged from here and all of that is true. I had a blast building these and assembling the crossover. Nothing too difficult if you have any sort of DIY skills and there are enough webpages with pictures out there to help if you need it. Also, if the crossovers are something you are worried about building yourself, I saw them on ebay for around 15 dollars a piece. I Glued these together and clamped them for 12 hours each time I glued them. I then sanded them smooth and then clear varnished them. I think they look good like that and I think there are several options for finishing them as well that would work just fine.

When I finished the crossover, I hooked up the speakers loosely (no box) just to make sure sound came out of them. I was very skeptical at that point that they were not going to be what I was hoping. I was wrong. Once I finished varnishing the box, I installed it all and then gave them a try. I was amazed at how "BIG" the speakers sound. I have blasted them and they get too loud before they distort. I'm running them on a Yamaha receiver RX-V483. I am thoroughly impressed with them and pairing them up with my LCR Apollo's I also built, they will be great surround sound speakers. I am probably going to get a couple more for my garage and I have recommended them to several others. I would not hesitate to buy these and build them if you are on the fence.

These are the big brother to the OS MTs and play as such. Same great sound signature but get louder and lower. Super fun to build and even better to listen to!

  5. Great speakers for budgets around $200 review by wolfcry0 on 9/20/2018

I've been using these for years now, both for TV/Movies and Music, and a little Gaming here and there. I'm very happy with them, they can get very loud if needed and for most music don't really need a subwoofer unless you listen to a lot of bass heavy EDM or similar genres.

Build process was very easy, glue the wood together, make the crossover which was just a few solder joints, and put it all together. I think it only took me an afternoon, not including the painting which I did over the next few days.

I'm happy with how they sound too, you'll want to keep them at least a foot from the wall or anything behind them as they are rear ported.

  6. Great bang for the buck review by Warren on 8/14/2018

These are greater speakers than the sum of their parts. Don't get me wrong; the drivers are great for their price range. However, Paul Carmody took the original Overnight Sensation speakers and designed an enclosure and crossover for them that brings them to their extreme performance. I have heard better dual woofer designs, but I haven't heard any better at this price.

As for the kit, it was easy to put together. Minus the finishing of the cabinets, it took about three hours to complete these. You could complete with finishing in about four if you simply spray paint the enclosure. I do wish the front baffle was routed to create a more secure bond like the back panel is.

Just buy them if you are on the fence.

  7. Wonderful kit, affordable high fidelity sound review by MattR on 6/29/2018

This was my first speaker build, so I decided to go with a kit that had most of the components already selected. The speakers sound amazing for music in my home office...I'm really pleased with how they turned out and it was fun to finish/assemble them myself. The sound is clear, balanced, expansive, and they play bigger than they are. Here's a couple pics: https://imgur.com/a/iDY2BHb

The kit itself was extremely well packed, shipped quickly, and the parts were chosen well. There were some *slight* defects in a couple spots on the wood but it was easy to fix those with wood filler/sanding. The price is amazing for what you get, I don't think Erich makes any money on these things. I'm hooked...onto the next set of speakers!

I recently ordered one of the Overnight Sensation MTM's to have for a center channel. The flat pack was easy to assemble and went together perfectly. The baltic birch was high quality and professionally cut. All of the proper crossover parts were included, per Paul Carmody's design specs. Everything was very securely packaged for shipping. I agree with the reviewer, John Booty, on his assessment of the sound qualities of the speaker. It is a great sounding speaker and I would highly recommend it. It is probably not the most ideal solution for a center channel, but even there it is doing a better job than my Bose VCS-10 was doing. I would also highly recommend DIY Sound Group!

  9. The ultimate affordable party speaker. review by JohnBooty on 2/24/2018

These speakers get RIDICULOUSLY loud and pump out oodles of fat, clear, not-bloated bass.

Feed them a solid 50wpc from a Class AB receiver, or from a 100wpc Class D receiver, and they will absolutely rock the house. They sound good with any kind of music but really shine with rock, hip-hop... anything with a solid foundation of bass.

Their mids and highs are just okay. I think the vocals are a bit stuffy. Not bad, but not great.

For their low asking price and compact size, they're special. If their strengths line up with your needs I think these are absolutely one of the best values in the audio world.
